Appalam Vatral Kuzhambu
Ingredients
Appalam 3 broken into pieces Tamarind Paste 1 tbsp Sambar powder 2 tsp Jaggery a little (optional) Oil 2 tbsp To temper 1 tsp mustard seeds 1-2 red chiilis 2 tsp tur dhal 1 tsp hing powder salt, haldi
Method
Heat oil in a pan & temper all ingredients one by one in the given order. Finally add sambar power, fry a little and add broken appalams. When they are fairly well fried add tamarind paste mixed with 1 1/2-2 cups water ,salt & haldi. Allow to boil and then simmer till the desired consistency is reached, like usual Vatral Kuzhambu. Add jaggery, if you like. You can prepare the same in a 2 litre pressure cooker or pan. Adjust the consistency in the beginning itself. After adding all ingredients, cover and put the weight. Switch off when the first whistle comes.
