cook the dal with a cup of water first and keep aside.Cut the spinach and keep. First put little oil in a pan and add all the seeds.Let it splutter.Then add the cut onions.Fry for a little time till it turns golden colour.Add the spinach and all the masalas with the tamarind pulp.Add the salt also.Cook for some time and when the spinach is fully cooked add the dal.Cook for some more time till it comes like any other sambar.Serve hot with` rice.
