Sweet Tamarind Chutney[for chaat]
Ingredients
Tamarind- 1 lemon size Jaggery - double the amount of tamarind Oil - 2 tbsps chilli powder - 1 tsp salt to taste Kalonji[onion seeds-available in most of the Indian Grocery stores in USA] Saunf-1/4 tsp Fenugreek seeds - 1/4 tsp Dry ginger -a small piece Jeera[cummin seeds]-1/4 tsp
Method
Soak tamarind in 1-2 cups of hot water and strain out the juice. Powder kalonji, saunf, fenugreek, dry ginger and cummin seeds. Powder jaggery. Heat oil in a pan, add the powdered masala,fry a bit, add the strained tamarind juice, jaggery, salt and chilly powder and cook till thick. Pour into a container when cool. Can be stored in the refridgerator.
