But you can a get a set of it from "tambhi.com" Idhai novel nu sollradhu thappu - idhukku peru "Kaviyam". Sanga kalla ilakiyangallukku nigaraga vaika vendiya oviyam. Ponniyin Selvan paditha rasigargal oru cult madhiri yana group. It will take several hour to get back to reality if you read the book for few hours. |

Posted At 08:01:14 09/16/2002 Hi All, I am very glad and very proud to participate in this forum as I have a craze for Kalki's Ponniyin Selvan. My sister gave a intro to it, when i was in my 8th std. Me & my sister collected the Kalki issues and binded Part I,II. I could only have overview of the other parts. From then on, i have read the parts I & II, 10 times. Later I came to know, the novel is published as books. But I luv to read it with its original paintings by "Maniyam". He adds more life to the characters. I dont know if the latest books come with those original drawings. When i start reading, i just get into those days, like another CHOLA citizen who is watching those events. I am entirely into the world of Ponniyin Selvan, and when i close the book, i wonder oh ... i am in a modern world. There are no 'Agil vilaku', palinku medai, Mada Maaligaigal .... With his style of narration, i almost dislike to be in this 21st century. If God asks me where i want to be, i wud say, i will become any of those chars, described by kalki. I have decided to order those books for personal copy. And here, i would like to appreciate PMKR. You have a great value for the novel, hats off!!!. I am thinking of getting the other writings of "Kalki". (I am not hesitating to tell you friends, my mother tongue is Telugu!!!) Hats off to "Kalki" "Vazgha Thamizh" |

Posted At 01:51:22 06/21/2003 Hi Friends, 'Ponniyin Selvan', is a novel which every Tamil reader should read. It is an excellent piece written in a way that will attract the reader. Kalki, is called the Walter Scott of Tamil. He has written numerous novels both historic and social novels. The most famous among them are Ponniyin Selvan, Sivagamiyin Sabatham, Parthiban Kanavu, Thiyaga Bhumi, Amarathara etc. Ponniyin Selvan is the best of the lot. I personally feel there is no other novel that matches PS in either Tamil/English. Writing historic novels is a very tricky work. One has to use a judicious mix of fact and fiction. The author has to be careful not to distort historical happenings and shouldn't quote false facts. Adding fiction to fact is a very difficult task and Kalki has done it beautifully. I have read PS three times, and I still have so many unanswered questions. One answer, every reader of this great book wants to know is 'Who killed Aditya Karikalan?' The other is the relationship between Aditya Karikalan, Nandini and Veerapandiyan. There are many theories regarding this issue. Me and my father have discussed this a lot, but I am still not satisfied with the answers. I welcome other readers to give their views on these issues. One more beauty of this story are the drawings by the Late Selva (Maniam Selvam's father). I was lucky to read a bound copy so I saw the original drawings. No words to describe them. 'Nandipurathu Nayagi' by Vikraman is considered to be a continuation of Ponniyin Selvan. Though not in the same genre of PS, it is a book worth reading. Especially, the sequences between Kundhavai and Vandiya Thevan. |
